Consumer Credit Repair

There are a great many things that you as a consumer can do to repair your credit. That is what you should do is to try and fix it your self instead of paying some outside company to do it.

If you have found something in your credit report that is not accurate you should send a letter to the consumer reporting company stating your case. Send copies, not originals, of papers or documents that support your position on the matter. You should state each and every item that you don’t agree with and provide the proof that you have. You should ask the very politely that you want the item or items removed from or corrected on your credit report.

Now these consumer reporting companies should investigate this within 30 days and they must forward the data they have received from you to the organization tat provided the information. Then this organization must investigate the allegations of inaccurate data, review it and report the results back to the consumer reporting company. If the investigation has proven that the information on the report is indeed inaccurate, the info provider must notify the nationwide consumer reporting agencies so they may make the corrections to your file.

Then when all this has taken place the reporting agency must give you, in writing, the results that were obtained and issue you a new credit report reflecting the change or changes that have been implemented.

The only way that a credit counseling company would be suggested would be in the case that you are not disciplined enough to make out a budget and stick to it and arrange a payment plan with your creditor. Many such credit counseling organizations are of the non profit nature and will aid you in solving your financial problems. Just don’t take the non profit as meaning you won’t have to pay for their services. Many of them do charge a fee and it is not always cheap.
